pea crabs

A few weeks ago, J and I made a run to the grocery store. We purchased a variety of meats, poultry, fish and shellfish. One night, J decided to make mussels for dinner. He steamed the mussels and made a delicious spicy sauce to go with it. About halfway through our romantic dinner, I noticed that one of the sides of the mussel that I was about to consume was split open and something didn't look right. I start to get a little panicky and asked J to come look it at. He knows that I tend to freak out over nothing so, without looking it at, he said it's fine and to just eat the mussel. That did not put me at ease so I began probing at this little alien looking thing that was hanging out in my dinner.

Turns out it was a pea crab all curled up like this:

Yea, I know. I was freaking out because I had already eaten 7 or 8 mussels at that point. Guh. I thought for sure it was just a fluke and decided to continue eating. That was until I found another pea crab all spread out and comfy like so:

And I was done.

two lovers point

My summary of the legend of Two Lovers Point - Daughter from a wealthy family. Dad arranges marriage to powerful Spanish captain. Daughter gets mad & runs to beach. Daughter meets modest warrior on beach, they fall in love. Dad finds out and is all "you're getting married to this captain right now." Daughter runs away again to meet her lover. Father, captain & Spanish soldiers pursue the lovers to the edge of a cliff.

Then, according to legend, "the lovers tied their long black hair into a single knot.  And acting as if they were entirely alone, they looked deeply into each other's eyes and kissed for the final time.  Then they leaped over the long, deep cliff into the roaring waters below."

Here are some photos from our trip to Two Lovers Point:
This was the drive up. J kept saying that it looked like we were driving through Jurassic Park.

This is the overlook on the edge of a cliff
Another view of the overlook. Pics from the overlook will be coming up!

There were many, many love locks

I didn't realize this when I took the picture but do you see the face?

my favorite pic of the day

There was also a random 9/11 memorial. The World Trade Center Towers are represented in the top of the frame, with the Pentagon in the forefront, and then trees in the middle representing Flight 93 that crashed in Pennsylvania.

There was also a chapel on the grounds which I'm assuming had the same view as the overlook. It was gated so this was the closest we could get.

We took the Jeep off road on the way home :)
